It’s not a ‘Devastating Rumor;’ College Park woman’s book may be adapted for film

College Park author O’drean Banks may watch her work unfold on the silver screen next year

“I wasn’t surprised when I heard about the movie offer because I knew this book is movie material, that was my intention from the start,” The book is a story of love gone bad because of vicious rumors.  I would say more, but I don’t’ want to give away too much,” she said. While Ms. Banks and the company are currently in negotiations about the cast and story development, the movie will not differ from the book.“I want the movie to stay on the same track as the book. Otherwise, people will lose focus on the real plot. Ms. Banks said she met Roderick Fitzhugh, the production company owner, through an actress who worked in one of his movies.  After meeting him, Ms. Banks asked him to read the book.

A few days later he offered to make the book into a movie, she said.  Devastating Rumors” released in bookstores November 1998.  The author self-published her work through her own company, O’RonJaki Publishing.  Since the release date, approximately 2,500 copies have been sold.  Mending a broken heart or dealing with the pain of losing a loved one, for whatever reason, is never an easy task. For South Metro’s newest rising urban contemporary author, O’drean E. Banks, writing has been an excellent form of therapy and a way to release. “I realized I was carrying around a lot of baggage and pain; the only way to get rid of it was to release it so I started keeping journals." said Ms. Banks. This Author is no stranger to failed and abusive relationships that had left her with feelings of low self-esteem, depression, anger and even resentment, she said.

One day , while cleaning her home, she happened across the journals and began to read them.“I said to myself, this would make a good book, so I proceeded to write the book," said Ms. Banks. From that book there has been a spin-off of eight more books, she said. "I wrote it to get rid of baggage, and decided to continue writing because I feel it's something a lot of people could benefit from," Ms. Banks said her first book “Devastating Rumors, When Lies Destroy” was published in November 1998 and tells a story of how rumors can destroy the lives of innocent people. Notorious Illusions was published in 2002 but has not yet been unveiled.

Her novels are rich with characters that are realistic and deal with situations that almost anyone can relate to either personally or vicariously. For her, writing has been the catalyst to freeing her mind, body and soul and providing her with an inner peace that has transformed into the strength and independence she now possesses. Not only has the Illinois native become an author, she has also formed her own publishing company, O’RonJaki Publishing, Inc. As an author/publisher, she writes, ghostwrites, edits, designs, illustrates and typesets. In addition, her experiences have allowed her to become a motivational speaker who tous the country captivating audiences with her powerful messages of empowerment.
